Day Trips from Rome 2015 | Excursions to Pompeii, Capri and Florence

If you are planning to visit Italy in 2015 you have many options of how to travel, you can travel from city to city staying a few days in each to see the sights before moving on to the next place. Some tourists may prefer to base themselves in one city as long as possible and make excursions to other locations. The beauty of Rome is that its in such a good location you can do exactly that, especially for visits to Pompeii, Naples, Florence, Capri and Assisi
Now while i would not advise you to take a day trip to Venice from Rome as you would not see much and spend most of the time traveling there and back and Venice deserves a few days of your time. However spending a week or so in Rome you can ensure that you get too see all the major tourist attractions that Rome has to offer, the Colosseum, Vatican, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and much more.
Which should usually leave you with a few days to explore a little further afield on some day trips from Rome. Here are some of the day trips and excursions on offer from Rome for 2015:
Day Trip to Naples and Pompeii
A trip to Pompeii is probably the most popular excursion from Rome. On this day trip you will be collected from your hotel in the centre of Rome and taken by coach on route down to the Campagna region of Italy. The Journey down will take approx 2 hours with the tour departing at approx 7:30am although you will probably we collected earlier from your Hotel. You will arrive first for a visit to the Hisorical centre of Naples to see Castel dell'Ovo, the Royal Palace, Opera House, the Umberto Gallery and more.
You will then make your way towards Pompeii through the Valley of Mount Vesuvius for lunch. The tour of Pompeii will take approx 2 hours. The tour will include a local guide and is available in various languages when making the booking. After the visit to Pompeii you will make the 3 hour journey back to Rome.

Day Trip to Capri and the Blu Grotto
Capri is an Island just off the coast from Naples and is famous for its spectacular views and regularly attracts the rich and famous. The tour would begin with a pickup from your Hotel early morning between 6:30 - 7:00 and you will be taken down by coach towards Naples and to the port where you will take the ferry crossing to Capri. The crossing takes approx 45 minutes but you will have the chance to see the wonderful scenery and the backdrop of Mount Vesuvius overlooking the city of Naples.
Once on the Island you will be taken upto Anacapri at the top of the Island and visit by boat to the "Blu Grotto" on the guided tour. You will then stop for lunch which is included in the tour and have the afternoon free to roam the island. The trip back will take approx 3 hours and you should be in Rome depending on traffic for around 7pm.

Day Trip to Florence
You can take a trip to the home of the Rennaisance period Florence, in the Tuscany region of Italy. The coach will collect you from you hotel between 6:30 and 7:00am and will take you north through the valley of Chianti the famous wine region.Once into Florence you will visit David by Michelangelo and the Academy museum.
You will visit many of Florence's city centre attractions such as Giotto's Bell Tower and Piazza della Signoria along with a lunch included in a local Florentine Restuarant. With tickets, transfers and a local guide its a great way to visit Florence for the day.

Day Trip to Assisi
The final option on the list of day trips on offer from Rome is a full day excursion to Assisi. Probably not as well known as the others on the list but its definately worth a visit if you have the time. As with the rest of the daytrips you will be picked up early morning and taken towards Assisi in the heart of the Umbrian countryside. You will visit the Porziuncola Chapel and Santa Maria Degli Angeli which is site where San Francesco died. You will then have lunch included in the tour.
In the afternoon you will see much more including Roman Temple dedicated to Minerva, the Basilica of San Francesco, Piazza del popolo and also some free time to look around on your own.
