Description

Following the ancient Via Tiburtina for 30 Kms from Rome toward the East, this Tivoli Tour invites you to visit and compare two splendid villas from two different ages; the Villa Adriana (Hadrian’s Villa), dating back to Roman times, and the Villa D’Este from the Renaissance period.
At the foot of the Tiburtini hills, the source of the springs that supply the spa town of Bagni di Tivoli, dominated by vast quarries of travertine marble, you will stop first to visit Villa Adriana. The ruins can only hint at the grandeur and beauty of this Villa built by Emperor Hadrian to remind him of the monuments and sites he had admired during his travels in the East. We then continue to the Villa D’Este, one of the most beautiful residences of the Renaissance. The Villa’s countless fountains, set in the heart of magnificent Italian style gardens, create a delightfully graceful symphony of carved stone, shade, sunlight and water.

Tivoli Tour - Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este

Our tour was actually operated by Green line tours in Rome, which seems to be a bigger company. rnIt was a nice afternoon, quite enjoyable, although it did feel somewhat rushed, as these things sometimes tend to.rnVilla Adriana is more or less the typical Roman thoroughfare, requiring a dollop of imagination to put into perspective, since it consists largely of ruins.rnVilla d\\\'Este was lovely, the fountains and greenery very beautiful to look at, would have liked some more time there.rnOur guide was an older Italian gentleman, whose name I do not recall, unfortunately. He did a good job keeping the group together and telling us a bit about the sights, although the feeling I got was more rushed than passionate, as I said.

Tivoli Tour - Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este

When visiting Rome , Tivoii is a wonderfully peaceful break from the noise and hectic pace of the city. Without a car getting there by public transportation is a very long trip so a tour is the easiest way to get there.rnAs far as tours go I would have preferred it to be with a smaller group. However, the guide was almost not needed at Villa D\\\'Este. Many people did not follow her but just walked around independently. That was fine for me. The water fountains and gardens are wonderful.rnAt Hadrian\\\'s Villa the guides input was needed more and was sufficient.

Tivoli Tour - Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este

This tour was fine and the guide was speaking 3 languages and was also funny BUT you should add another hour more to this trip. If I calculate the duration of transportation we have 1 hour tour in Hadrian\\\'s Villa and 1 hour in D\\\'Este villa. This last one should, at least, have a 90 minutes duration.
