If you are planning to visit Italy in 2015 you have many options of how to travel, you can travel from city to city staying a few days in each to see the sights before moving on to the next place. Some tourists may prefer to base themselves in one city as long as possible and make excursions to other locations. The beauty of Rome is that its in such a good location you can do exactly that, especially for visits to Pompeii, Naples, Florence, Capri and Assisi

Now while i would not advise you to take a day trip to Venice from Rome as you would not see much and spend most of the time traveling there and back and Venice deserves a few days of your time. However spending a week or so in Rome you can ensure that you get too see all the major tourist attractions that Rome has to offer, the Colosseum, Vatican, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and much more.

Which should usually leave you with a few days to explore a little further afield on some day trips from Rome. Here are some of the day trips and excursions on offer from Rome for 2015:

Day Trip to Naples and Pompeii

A trip to Pompeii is probably the most popular excursion from Rome. On this day trip you will be collected from your hotel in the centre of Rome and taken by coach  on route down to the Campagna region of Italy. The Journey down will take approx 2 hours with the tour departing at approx 7:30am although you will probably we collected earlier from your Hotel. You will arrive first for a visit to the Hisorical centre of Naples to see Castel dell'Ovo, the Royal Palace, Opera House, the Umberto Gallery and more.

You will then make your way towards Pompeii through the Valley of Mount Vesuvius for lunch. The tour of Pompeii will take approx 2 hours. Capri is an Island just off the coast from Naples and is famous for its spectacular views and regularly attracts the rich and famous. The crossing takes approx 45 minutes but you will have the chance to see the wonderful scenery and the backdrop of Mount Vesuvius overlooking the city of Naples.

Once on the Island you will be taken upto Anacapri at the top of the Island and visit by boat to the "Blu Grotto" on the guided tour.
